Position Summary:

This position will afford you the ability to utilize your creative skills to develop and lead programming for youth whose families choose to join us over the course of 6 weeks of residential and day camp programming. You will also supervise and mentor all staff in program areas such as Arts & Crafts, or Archery among many other program areas. Additionally, you will be responsible for developing the evening camp program. This role will allow you further hone your creative and leadership skills and will require you to engage parents, staff, and campers on a daily basis. The position of Program Director is considered a member of the administrative staff, and as such will be responsible for assisting in the implementation of staff training.

Mandated Qualification:

  • Must have at least 3 years of camp experience as a camp staff member (not limited to only Camp Turk)
  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • Valid US driver’s license
  • Must have had supervising experience in a camp setting
  • Must have college experience or work experience in program development and delivery

Preferred Qualification:

  • Successful experience working around children, staff, and community members of all ages
  • Strong reading, writing, and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Strong organizational skills, and ability to multitask
  • Must be comfortable in an outdoor environment in a wide range of weather conditions
  • At least 1 years’ experience as a Program Director, or closely related position in a camp setting


  • Develop new and innovative programming for “all camp” evening programs
  • Develop special programming in accordance with the camp session planning
  • Supervise staff & advise program development in the following areas:
    • Arts & Crafts
    • Outdoor Education
    • Hiking & Biking
    • Music
    • Theater
    • Field Sports
    • Archery
    • Waterfront
    • Other programs as developed during the summer
  • Evaluate staff in relation to their program area during end of summer evaluation
  • Assist the Camp Director in developing and delivering excellent pre-camp training
  • Participate in daily staff meeting to review pertinent all camp issues and brief key staff on program issues
  • Maintain all Camp Turk, and NYS Department of Health Standards in program areas
  • Assist in enforcing all camp policies during camp season
  • Maintain accurate program supply inventories and records
  • Be a positive role model in word, action, and thought during the camp season
  • Maintain the safety and health of campers at all times through proactivity regarding potential dangers, avoiding horseplay, and prompt medical attention to illness and injury.
  • Ensure that all campers have a positive camp experience, regardless of differences or disabilities.
  • Promptly reporting incidents and concerns to either the Healthcare, Assistant Camp Director, or Camp Director depending on the nature of the concern
  • Other duties as requested by the Camp Director

Of Note:

  • This position due to the nature of work will require early morning work and late-night work. In this position you will be a member of the Administrative Staff at Camp Turk reporting directly to the Assistant Camp Director.
